Hotel for family of 5 or 6

We will be visiting around July 4th this year and were wondering where to stay on a low budget. Should we stay in Manhattan or go to the outskirts, some 5 miles or so away? Any suggestions would be great.

Manhattan is an island, and islands do not have outskirts -- you are either on them, or you are not. Manhattan is also NOT synonymous with New York City; Manhattan is in fact the smallest of the five boroughs in area. New York City has outskirts -- but if you mean ';the edge of the heavily built up area';, they are a minimum of twenty miles from Manahttan!!

What you are in fact wanting to ask is whether you should stay in Manhattan, or else either in Queens or New Jersey near a form of rapid transit. That question has been adressed a number of times on this forum; you might try searching for ';Queens';, ';PATH train';, or ';Jersey City';.

Depends on what your budget is, how old the kids are and how long you%26#39;re staying. Always better to stay IN Manhattan but if it%26#39;s the diff. between coming or not, stay in Jersey CIty. Unfortunately though, since there are some great views of fireworks from jersey City, you may find the cost is not much better than staying in Manhattan.

The laws in NYC don`t permit more than 4 guests in a hotel room. A suite or 2 hotel rooms are probably the only alternatives if you`re going to stay in Manhattan. I frequently make this suggestion to families and believe it is the best value you`ll find: The family suites at The Comfort Inn Chelsea. It`s well located at 18 W. 25th Street, just West of 5th Avenue and Madison Square Park. It`s also close to several subway stops. This is an older hotel that was bought and renovated by Choice Hotels last year. The results are nice, with compact, pleasantly decorated rooms, an amiable helpful staff and an expanded continental breakfast is included in the nightly rate. The suites are actually 2 bedrooms (1 king, 2 doubles) and one bathroom. The Internet or AAA rate for that time period is $305. You`ll pay considerably more for 2 rooms elsewhere or for a suite (where a sofa be will be involved.) The included breakfast for a family of 5 is a savings not to be overlooked.....probably at least $50 per day. If you book this at choicehotels.com it is cancellable up until 24 hours before your arrival date with no penalties. It could be prudent to book this as soon as possible, then you can cancel if something better comes along.
