An Aussie beer drinker in New york

As an Aussie who likes his beer, how much is it in NY? I guess it is available in supermarkets etc. Thanks for any suggestions as to where it is the cheapest to buy it.

It%26#39;s about $10.00 US.

A discount liquor shop.

Sorry, had to answer due to incomplete information in your query, hope you see my logic.

What brand, size and quantity of beer beer are you looking for?

Where are you staying in NYC? What section of town?

The more we know, the more credible the response.

Yes, you can buy beer at supermarkets and little neighborhood grocery stores (we often call them ';bodegas'; - pronounced ';beau-DAY-gahz';)

Beer is cheaper in poorer neighborhoods, so get out of Times Square and midtown if you want to buy a cheap six-pack. Also, I believe average US alcohol percentage content in beer is lower than the rest of the world.

(FYI, a side point: you won%26#39;t find beer at liquor stores, and you won%26#39;t find wine or hard liquor at supermarkets, unlike the rest of the US.)

Thanks guys for your help. We will be staying at the Ramada New Yorker , which is near Manhattan I think. From posts on the hotel review, there is a corner store across the street, hopefully they will sell beer there.[ bottles or cans ]

';...Manhattan, which is the island on which NYC is situated.';

Poppa - sorry, that is incorrect.

Yes, Manhattan is an island, but it is not New York City. It is one of five boroughs (like counties) which - all together - consittute NYC.

New York City is made up of five boroughs: Queens County (aka Queens), Richmond County (aka Staten Island), New York County (which is Manhattan Island), Kings County (aka Brooklyn), and Bronx Country (aka The Bronx.)

And don%26#39;t give me that ';everyone calls Manhattan %26#39;the city%26#39; anyway'; line. That%26#39;s vernacular, not accuracy.

Linet, there are some great guidebooks and websites out there. Check the ';sticky'; at the top of this forum for links.

Try out, for starters:

Also, many who post here say they like the DK Eyewitness guides or Lonely Planet.

Everyone does call manhattan the city-it%26#39;s true, and as far as tourists care, the city is manhattan

And just for clarity, of the 300-plus squar miles of New York City, only about 46 of those square miles (Almost all of which make up the major portion of the borough of the Bronx) are NOT on one island or another. The largest portion of New York City is actually on Long Island (which is the island on which the major portion of both Brooklyn an Queens can be found -- and it should be noted that while most of Long Island is not in New York City, most people who live on Long Island do indeed live in those two most populous NYC boroughs, as do most of the people who live in New York City.) The borough of Staten Island is (no surprise) largely made up of Staten Island, which is about three times the size of Manhattan island. Manhattan is the third largest of the New York City islands, although the Borough of Manhattan also includes Roosevelt Island, Governors Island, Wards and Randalls Islands -- and both Liberty and Ellis Islands.

Pint of beer at a bar is about $5 - $6 on average in Manhattan. That will be higher at a club and at some bars (some tourist trap in Times Square), but many places have happy hour where prices are reduced, 2-for-1, etc. If you knowe where to go, drinking is not that expensive in the city.
