Book a Taxi or not

Hi we going over to New York next week (4 of us) we arrive at JFK mid afternoon.

It%26#39;s our 1st time and just wondered if we can get a taxi out side the airport without booking.

I was going to buy some boots before we go over (it may snow) or should I buy over there, are things much cheaper.

If so could you suggest a good priced shop?

Thanks gshappy

Book a Taxi or not

Yes, follow the signs to the taxi stand (rank, queue) and wait on line.

NYC yellow taxis charge a flat rate of $45 to or from Kennedy Airport (JFK) and anywhere in Manhattan. $45 + tip + any tolls, so total would range $52-$60.

4 people per car max.

Take only licensed yellow taxis, standing at the taxi stand. tell the dispatcher where you are going - name the intersection, not the hotel name ( too many hotels!) . For example, say ';53rd Street and 7th Ave, please,'; not ';The Hilton.'; Use www.maps.yahoo.com or your hotel website or email your hotel to find the intersection.

NEVER ever ever accept a ride from anyone offering you a ride near the luggage carousel or in the airport. It%26#39;s most likely a scam.
