any deals or discounts for touring NYC museums and/or sites?

Does anyone know of discounts available for NYC Met. Museum of Art, as well as any other museums and/or sites?

Many of the museums, one of which is the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is entry by donation. Therefore you can pay what you want. When you go to the payment counter, tell them what you want to pay even if it much less than the suggested amount.

Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) is free on Friday afternoons.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) and The Museum of Modern Art are payable by suggested donation at all times. Hand the cashier whatever amount you want, as little as one penny per person, and say ';This is for X amount of admissions.';

Voy, that is incorrect.

The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) is NEVER pay-what-you-wish. In fact, it is one of the museums where it is hardest to have a discount accepted. The only one that ever worked for me there during regular hours was my friend%26#39;s corporate discount. I don%26#39;t think they even have a student discount anymore!

But, it IS correct that MOMA is open late and free on Friday evenings.

This is a list of museums that are ALWAYS pay-what-wish:

Museums with ';suggested donation'; policies:

Metropolitan Museum of Art - ($20 recommended)

The Cloisters - ($20 recommended)

(NOTE: the Met and the Cloisters are part of the same institution. Pay one price for both. Show your entrance tag.)

American Museum of Natural History ($14 recommended)

Museum of the City of New York - ($9 recommended)

Brooklyn Museum - ($8 recommended)

Studio Museum in Harlem - ($7 recommended)

el Museo del Barrio - ($6 recommended)

New York City Police Museum - ($5 recommended)

New York City Fire Museum - ($5 recommended)

P.S. 1 MoMA - ($5 recommended)

Queens Museum of Art - ($5 recommended)

Bronx Museum- ($5 recommended)

Museum of Chinese in the Americas - ($3 recommended)

Staten Island Museum - ($2 recommended)

Let your conscience and wallet be your guide.

the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a suggested donation-and $20 is way too much. $3-$5 will do just fine. There is a student discount at the MOMA, I used it last week. the Jewish Museum is free on Saturday. The Cezanne show at the Met is 2 for 1 with a Metro card. Check the websites of the museums you want to visit and you%26#39;ll see which nights are free.

The Citypass.com covers

Empire State building

Circle line cruise

Mus. of Natural History/Rose Center

Guggenheim

MOMA

all for $53 for an adult ($44 kids) over a 9 day period. Do the math about whether it%26#39;s worth it for you.

If your visit is in Jan/Feb. there are some added discounts to be had thru one of these 2 winter promotions

Ooops. I meant The American Museum of Natural History not Museum of Modern Art is suggest donation only. Apologies.

It takes a brave person not to pay the suggested donation!!!

Preston - Well, frankly, not really. Most locals don%26#39;t feel bad about paying whatever for the Met. Honestly, I%26#39;ve never known anybody who lives here who pays the full suggested donation to the Met. Even my 10th grade English teacher used to say, ';you%26#39;re in high school. Pay a dignified quarter.';

Possibly because we%26#39;re so used to having the Met here in our backyard? Because we can go whenever we want?

When I went to the Natural History Museum in NY a few years ago with my family. I wanted to pay only a few dollars. After all its free.

I lost my nerve at the last minute.

Oh My Gosh!!! $20 for the Met is really high! Is that honestly what they ask?? What would they do if we paid half that?? Isn%26#39;t it so large that you can%26#39;t see it all in one day (or so I heard)? Whoa....Rome museums were cheaper!

Thank you for the advice everybody! I don%26#39;t know if I have the courage to hand over less and not blink! Do they frown and %26#39;tsk tsk%26#39; at those who do?
