taxi prices

What is an estimated cost for a taxi 2ppl from JFK to the Bryant Park Hotel (40 West 40th Street)? Is it about the same as a car service? any recommendations would be appreciated! also which car service?

taxi prices

Taxi - JFK to Manhattan is a fixed price. $45.00 plus tip and tolls. Estimate $60.00.

You can arrange a car service through Allstate or Dial 7 (212 333 3333 or 212 777 7777) but you%26#39;ll find taxi%26#39;s are pretty easy and will generally save a couple dollars. Some taxi%26#39;s take credit cards.

And the price from Manhattan back to the airport is now the same $45.00 fixed price as well, plus toll %26amp; tip, of course.

I have not had the need to take a taxi in the states, but what do people tend to tip the taxi drivers? 10% or a few bucks?

JFK to Manhatten is about 12 miles according to map quest.. so base cost of 45/12 is about 4 bucks a mile.. They%26#39;re making pretty good money right there alone wouldn;t you say?

How come it takes about 1 hr to go 12 miles from jfk to NYC? Traffic? If I get in at 6am on a sunday, shouldn;t be much traffic right? For the two of us with 2 luggage, would you advise to take the bus into nyc to save a little money or too much trouble?

Despite what Mapquest says it is about 20 miles from the Bryant to the airline terminals and the trip can take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. The $45 flat rate is not a rip off,

from the airports if I have bags I take the Blue Shuttle, otherwise if I can carry my bags I take the subway. The tourist info in the airport can direct you to a bus. But never get picked up by one of the guys hanging aroung the arrivals exit.
